There’s an old expression I’ve always liked about the cobbler’s children never having shoes.
It’s so true, isn’t it?
As a photographer, I often find myself severely lacking in images of, well…myself! I’m always the one behind the camera, and rarely the one in the pictures.
But as a small business, I know how important it is to create strong brand content for myself—as do my fellow photographers.
I recently had the pleasure of shooting behind the scenes for my best bud & boudoir photographer Tina Wesley, of La Femme Boudoir. We decided we needed to take some time to prioritize our own brand needs, and each took a morning to join the other on a shoot to give each other some great behind the scenes shots!
Not only was it so much fun, but we both walked away with great new images to show our clients just what goes on behind the scenes of a shoot with each of us, and what they can expect!
Tina is amazing. She’s been shooting boudoir for the better part of a decade now, which is almost as long as I’ve known her. And in that time, I’ve had the opportunity to assist her on shoots, learn from her, and marvel at her incredible ability to put half-naked women at ease.
And yet I STILL shuddered at the thought of doing my own boudoir shoot. Even shooting with my best friend, even though I knew how stunning the pictures would inevitably be, and even feeling body positive. I STILL had to pull on (and then take off) my brave pants to book that shoot and show up that day. So I can only imagine what it’s like to book a shoot like this without that level of comfort.
That’s where behind the scenes shots come into play. They help our prospective clients get a real glimpse into what a shoot with us looks like.
So what goes on behind the camera that goes into those gorgeous shots you see? With Tina, it’s a lot of laughter, posing, outfit help, and climbing on things. Here’s a look into a recent boudoir shoot with La Femme Boudoir, which I hope will allow you to get a feel for what a shoot with her is like, as well as an understanding of the importance of brand photography for us photographers, too.
